This Privacy Policy explains how Music Zoom handles information when you use the Music Zoom app for iPad (the “App”) and the website at musiczoom.app (the “Website”). Music Zoom is made by Caelin Lloyd, an independent developer based in Nova Scotia, Canada (“we”, “us” or “our”).
The short version
- The App has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
- Your sheet music, markings and annotations stay on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage. We can’t see them.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never receive your name, email address or payment details from a purchase.
- The Website doesn’t use analytics or advertising cookies. If you contact us, we use what you send only to reply.
- We don’t sell or share your personal information.
1. Information the App handles
Your music library. The songs, page images, line markings, repeats, annotations and other content you create in the App (“Your Content”) are stored on your device. We don’t operate any server that receives Your Content.
iCloud sync. If you’re signed in to iCloud and iCloud is turned on for Music Zoom, the App uses Apple’s CloudKit service to keep a copy of Your Content in the private iCloud database of your Apple Account. This lets your library sync to your other devices and be restored if you reinstall the App. Apple stores this data, it counts toward your iCloud storage, and Apple’s Privacy Policy governs it. Only you can access your private iCloud database. We can’t access, view or recover anything stored there. To stop syncing, turn off iCloud for Music Zoom in your device’s Settings. To delete synced data, open Settings, tap your name, then go to iCloud and manage your storage.
Camera and photos.
- Camera: If you allow camera access, the App uses the camera only when you choose to photograph a page of music. Photos taken in the App are kept in the App and aren’t saved to your photo library.
- Photos: When you import pages from your photo library, the App uses Apple’s photo picker, which gives the App only the images you select. The App doesn’t browse or upload the rest of your library.
You can change these permissions at any time in Settings.
Settings, footswitches and keyboards. Display settings, such as staff size and colors, are saved with each song and sync with it. Scrolling settings are stored on your device. While a song is open, the App listens for arrow-key presses from a connected footswitch or keyboard to move through your music. It doesn’t record or store any key presses.
Purchases and subscriptions. Apple sells and processes subscriptions through the App Store. The App checks your subscription status with Apple on your device. We don’t receive your name, email address, Apple Account details or payment information. Apple gives developers sales and subscription reports, which show things like which plan was bought and in which country. We use these for accounting and to understand how the App is doing.
Schools and organizations. If your school or organization gives you Music Zoom through Apple School Manager, Apple Business Manager or a device-management system, the App still doesn’t collect any information about students or other users. Your organization and Apple handle device and subscription assignment under their own agreements.
Crash reports and diagnostics. The App has no analytics or crash-reporting tools of its own. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may give us crash reports and usage statistics that Apple has aggregated or de-identified. We use them only to find and fix problems. You can turn this off at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
Beta testing (TestFlight). If you join a Music Zoom beta through TestFlight, Apple may share some information with us. This can include your name and email address (if you were invited by email), your device model and iPadOS version, crash reports, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send. We use this only to run the beta and improve the App.
Third-party code. The App includes the open-source ZIPFoundation library, which runs entirely on your device and doesn’t send data anywhere. The App contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software.
2. Information the Website handles
Visiting the Website. Like most websites, our web host automatically records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of your visit. These server logs are used to keep the Website running and secure. The Website doesn’t use analytics services, advertising networks or tracking cookies. It may set a small number of cookies it needs to work, for example to remember your details if you leave a comment and ask it to.
Contacting us. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive the information you provide, such as your name, email address and message. We use it only to respond to you and, where relevant, to give you support. An email-delivery service forwards contact-form messages to our inbox. We never add you to a mailing list without your permission.
3. How we use and share information
We use the limited information described above only to provide and support the App and Website, respond to you, keep our services secure, meet legal obligations and keep our accounts. We don’t sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising. We share information only:
- with service providers that help us run the Website and deliver email, such as our web host and email-delivery provider, who may use it only to provide those services to us;
- if required by law, a court order or a valid request from authorities; or
- to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or us.
If Music Zoom is ever transferred to a new owner, any information we hold would move with it, still covered by this Policy, and we would let you know.
4. Where information is stored
Apple stores your iCloud data. The Website and our email are hosted by service providers that may store information outside Nova Scotia and outside Canada, including in the United States. Information stored outside Canada is subject to the laws of the country where it’s stored.
5. How long we keep information
Your Content stays on your device and in your iCloud until you delete it. When iCloud sync is on, deleting a song in the App also deletes it from iCloud. Deleting the App removes the copy on that device. Anything in iCloud stays there until you delete it through your iCloud storage settings.
Messages and emails are kept as long as we need them to help you, then deleted within a reasonable period.
Server logs are kept by our web host for a limited period.
6. Your choices and rights
Because the App doesn’t send Your Content to us, you control it directly. You can edit or delete it in the App, turn off iCloud sync, or delete it from iCloud.
For information we do hold, such as emails and contact-form messages, you can ask to see it, correct it, or withdraw your consent to our using it. Contact us at info@musiczoom.app and we’ll respond within 30 days. Canadian residents have these rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Depending on where you live, you may have similar or additional rights under local laws, such as those of the European Union, the United Kingdom or US states like California. We’ll honour those rights.
7. Children
Music Zoom is suitable for musicians of all ages, including students. The App doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children. We don’t knowingly collect personal information through the Website from children under 13, or under the minimum age in your country. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
8. Security
The App keeps your data on your device and in Apple’s iCloud, which encrypts data both in transit and in storage. We protect the information we hold with reasonable safeguards. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
9. Changes to this Policy
If we change this Policy, we’ll update the date at the top and post the new version in the App and on the Website. If a change significantly affects how we handle your information, we’ll announce it more prominently, for example on the Website or in the App’s release notes.
